WIN a Room Forty Cream Tea

24/6/2016

It's National Cream Tea Day, 24 June 2016!

Picture
Because I love them so much, today I am giving you a chance to win cream tea for six people completely free. All you have to do is like and share my Facebook or Twitter page or comment on this blog on my website www.roomforty.co.uk by 8pm Sunday 26 June 2016.

One lucky winner will be chosen at random to receive six freshly made scones, a pot of jam, clotted cream a whole Victoria Sponge plus a packet of fine quality Loose Leaf Cheshire Tea!

Terms and Conditions apply, see end of this blog for details!
Good Luck!

Recipe

Here at Room Forty I love to experiment, so once I got the hang of things, I started to create my own flavours, including strawberry and lime, fresh blueberry and coconut… but today I will share my basic recipe. It is bit on the sticky side, so do have a damp cloth ready to wipe your hands!

Ingredients
450g Self raising flour
75g Butter
50g caster sugar
2 tsp baking powder
2 large eggs
200ml milk (or buttermilk, or milk with a squeeze of lemon)
(80g fruit optional)

Method
1) Preheat your oven to 220*c or 200* if it is a fan oven, and grease 2 trays
2)  Rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs
3) Add the baking powder and sugar and mix
4) Break the eggs and add the milk to the eggs, stir it up and take a couple of tablespoons of the mixture out, to glaze the scones at the end
5) Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ones and bring it all together into a sticky ball (Add any fruit here)
6) Pop it onto the worktop and using a bit of flour to stop it sticking, roll it out to about 3/4 inch thick. Use a cutter to cut straight down then back up – never twist the cutter or they won’t rise properly
7) Roll up any unused dough and repeat until it is all used up
8) Brush the tops, not the sides with the egg/milk mixture and pop them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes (depending on how big you made them!)
9) Lift out and tap the bottom, it will sound slightly hollow and the base will be golden
10) Cool on a wire rack covered with a tea towel to stop them going hard

Join us for a delightful vintage style afternoon tea on Saturday 23 July at The Mission, a very pretty village hall in Woolston, Warrington.

There will be two opportunities to dine with us, 1pm and 3pm, however places for this exclusive event are limited, and will issued on a first come first served basis so we do advise to get in touch and book early.

The menu will include as many local and seasonal products as we can cram on to our pretty vintage tea plates, including dainty finger sandwiches, fluffy home baked scones with jam and clotted cream, a selection of home-made patisserie and of course teapots brimming with a range of fine quality Cheshire Tea’s (we do serve coffee and juice too!)

Following the success of the Clandestine Cake Club, our communi’tea’ table is for guests who want to socialise and meet new food loving friends, or come on your own so you don’t miss out.

Guests will also enjoy LIVE entertainment and our very own pop up vintage, craft and tea shop.

As with all our events, dressing up is encouraged, but not a must!

If you would like to attend please email hello@roomforty.co.uk and let me know the number of tickets and I will get in touch. Tickets are £17.50 adults and £6.50 children over 3. (Babies and under three’s are most welcome, and free when they share with you).
 See you there!
